Flight Beats Columbus 75-68 Saturday; Bias Ties NBDL Game Rebounding Mark

COLUMBUS, Ga. (Jan. 4) – Rodney Bias collected season-highs of 16 points and 20 rebounds, the latter tying an NBDL game record, as the Huntsville Flight defeated the Columbus Riverdragons 75-68 here Saturday night at the Columbus Civic Center.

The Flight (13-9) snapped a two-game overall losing streak, while Columbus (8-12) lost for the fourth straight time at home. The two teams return to action against each other Tuesday when they play at the Von Braun Center in a 7:30 p.m. contest.

Brandon Williams led the Flight in scoring with 17 points, while Lonnie Harrell chipped in 15 and Eric Chenowith added 10. As for Bias, he tied the league rebounding record that was established last season by Makhtar N'Diaye (North Charleston) and Kareem Poole (Columbus).

Nate Johnson paced four Riverdragons in double figures with 18 points, as Tang Hamilton tallied 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Tyrone Washington collected 11 points and Nate Green poured in 10 points.

Except for a pair of second quarter ties, the Flight led for the entire contest.

Huntsville held an eight-point advantage at 69-61 with 4:33 to play when the Riverdragons’ Hamilton scored seven straight points for Columbus over a minute and a half span. That cut the deficit to one at 69-68.

Demetric Shaw then converted a three-point play to push the lead to four with 1:45 to play and Harrell hit one of two free throws with 35 seconds left to push the Flight margin. Bias added two more free throws with 12 seconds to play for insurance.
