Huntsville Flight News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 1 – Bernard King led a balanced scoring attack as the Huntsville Flight beat the Fayetteville Patriots 94-76 in National Basketball Development League action at the Von Braun Center. King finished with 24 points, one of four Flight players in double figures. The win was the Flight’s third in a row, and second straight against the Patriots.

Center Mengke Bateer got the Flight going early with seven first-quarter points. A King lay-up put the Flight ahead 15-7 midway through the period. With a six point lead to start the second quarter, Huntsville got seven points from King to extend the lead to 51-35, and maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the afternoon.

“I told the guys how important it was for us to start strong after we beat them Monday night,” Flight head coach Ralph Lewis said. “We were able to get out in front again today, but this time we didn’t let them back in it.”

Huntsville’s Rodney Bias, last season’s NBDL rebounding champion, finished with 20 rebounds, two shy of the league record he set last season. David Young had 23 points for Fayetteville.

The game was one of the Flight’s “School Days” games, with a special 11 a.m. tip-off. More than 1,600 Tennessee Valley school children were in attendance as a reward for meeting reading goals set by their schools and the Flight.

The Flight improved to 3-2 on the season, while the Patriots dropped to 1-6. Up next for the Flight is a Friday night visit to Asheville, before returning home for two games on December 10 and 11. Fayetteville travels to Asheville to take on the Altitude Saturday night.
