January 17, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) - Rio Grande Valley Flash
HIDALGO, Texas- The next game for the Flash will be on Sunday, January 20 when they will host the Dallas Sidekicks at State Farm Arena with the kickoff set for 5:00 pm.
It will serve as a pivotal divisional game as the first two meetings against Dallas resulted in losses in the season but the Flash feel that the upcoming match will be of high importance in their playoff aspirations.
Head Coach Mariano Bollella stated that "Defending will be key for us in the upcoming game. The last encounter with Dallas we had some defending issues and gave away cheap goals." Bollellla also stated that "we must apply pressure when we have a power play advantage because Dallas plays very smart and we hope to make the most of the man advantage."
For the upcoming game against the Sidekicks, the Flash is making a change at goalkeeping spot when Brownsville native Juan Gamboa is expected to make his professional debut. Team president Gerardo Guerra Lozano commented on the signing of the goalkeeper "It is important to be aware of the local talent that there is in the Rio Grande Valley. Gamboa was one of many individuals that came to our tryouts and the coach decided give him a chance at the professional level." Lozano also stated "we want to continue looking for the local talents that will help us be productive on and off the field."
Gamboa played at Pace High School and his collegiate career at the University of Texas Brownsville where he had played 55 games and started 48 for the Scorpions. He amassed 44 wins with 22 clean sheets in his collegiate career.
