March 11, 2016 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Western New York Flash News Release

ELMA, N.Y. (Friday, March 11, 2016) - The Western New York Flash announced its preseason schedule today. The Flash will play two exhibition games during the five-week preseason, which starts Monday, March 14, including a game against NCAA National Champion Penn State University. Both games will be played at Sahlen's Sports park and will be free to the public.

The Flash will host reigning Big 12 Conference Champions West Virginia University on Saturday, March 19 at 4:00 p.m. at SSP. Flash goalkeeper Sabrina D'Angelo and defender Adriana Leon will play against their Canada Women's National Team teammates Kadehisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawerence. Buchanan, Lawerence and Leon represented Canada together at the 2015 Women's World Cup last summer, where Lawerence won the Hyundai Young Player Award at the conclusion of the tournament. The four helped secure a spot for Canada at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games back in February. This will be the fourth-straight year the Flash have faced off against WVY head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown's team during the NWSL preseason.

Some more familiar faces will clash as recent WNY Flash 2016 Draft picks Britt Eckerstrom (GK) and Mallory Weber (M) take on their alma mater Penn State University on Saturday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. Eckerstrom, a goalkeeper, co-captained the 2015 squad to a Big Ten Championship and the NCAA Championship, and also earned Defensive Player of the Tournament and All-Big Ten Tournament honors. Weber, a midfielder, finished her Penn State career as a two-time All-Big Ten honoree. Coach Erica Walsh, who heads the Nittany Lions, is an Olympic gold medalist and World Cup runner-up as an assistant coach for the United States Women's National Team.

Fans are encouraged to attend both preseason fixtures, as both are open to the public and free of charge. Admission and seating will be on a first come, first serve basis.
