Florida Flame News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Flame, presented by Century 21 Sunbelt Realty, are partnering with the Lee County School District for two programs that will feature academic and fundraising incentives for local elementary, middle, and high school students.

The "B's or Better" Program allows all participating teachers to give one free ticket to every student in grades K-8 that achieves the grade of "B" or better in the subject chosen by that teacher. The program runs from November through December. At the end of both months every student that has achieved a grade of "B" or better will receive a voucher for a free Flame game ticket which the student can redeem at a Flame game with his or her family. Plus, all high school students that qualify for the honor roll at the end of the second quarter will receive a free Flame game ticket.

In addition, the Flame are providing academic incentives for those students who attend a school that does not participate in the "B's or Better" Program. Students from non-participating schools may bring their report card to a Flame game and present it at the Germain Arena box office or contact Pat Eberle at (239) 561-8130 to receive a free game ticket.

The "Dunkin' For Dollars" Program gives students the chance to raise money for their particular school by selling Flame game tickets. Students will be able to sell Flame Gold Bowl tickets, normally priced at $13 for only $10. The school will receive 50 percent of the proceeds for every ticket sold. Through these proceeds, the "Dunkin' For Dollars" Program gives each school the opportunity to raise money for necessary extras that would not be included in their particular budget.

"Typically youngsters need that little extra incentive that inspire them to achieve," said Steven Teuber, school board member of the Lee County School District. "Partnering with a known attractor like professional basketball will help increase our chances of motivating our students to excel academically. What a deal! Get a ‘B' and earn a free ticket to a Flame basketball game."

In addition to these two programs, the Flame will provide player appearances in district schools this season through the D-League's Read To Achieve program. The first two appearances will be held at the school that redeems the most vouchers in the months of November and December.

Every participating teacher in the "B's or Better" and "Dunkin' For Dollars" programs will also receive a free game ticket to the Flame's March 5 home game versus the Fayetteville Patriots at Germain Arena. Participating teachers will be recognized during the game for their hard work and dedication to the children of the Lee County School District.

The Florida Flame is the official D-League affiliate of the NBA's Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Orlando Magic. Showcasing the best young talent in professional basketball outside of the NBA, the Flame will play a 48-game schedule during the 2005-06 season with 23 home games at Germain Arena. Led by a group of local investors, the Flame is entering its second season of providing affordable, family entertainment to sports fans throughout Southwest Florida.
