Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, NE - An early one goal lead disappeared for the second straight night as the Lancers dropped their second exhibition game of the season to Lincoln, 5-1, Friday night at Ralston Arena.

Brannon McManus, making his first appearance of the preseason, gave the Lancers the opening marker for the second consecutive game. McManus took advantage of a 2-on-1 looking off the defender before snapping a wrist shot past Cayden Primeau low to the blocker side. Alex Mehnert picked up the lone assist recording his first point as a Lancer. The lead would not hold up through the end of the period. Five and a half minutes later Lincoln's Ethen Frank connected with newcomer Luka Maver walking out from the left wall. Maver cut across the circle before beating Thome low to the glove side to tie the game at 1-1.

Special teams were the story of the second period. Teams traded man-advantages in the early going. Lincoln broke the deadlock at 8:57. A odd angle from Eero Teravainen shot squeezed through Peter Thome's pads before just sneaking over the goal like giving Lincoln their first lead of the game.

Finding themselves with the advantage again shortly after Lincoln capitalized to take a two-goal lead. Mike Gillespie's pass hit Henry Bowlby in stride as the Stars' returner pushed the lead to 3-1.

Things heated up in the third period as the teams combined for 58 penalty minutes. Trading opportunities the Lancers were unable to capitalize on the power play being held scoreless on six opportunities.

After taking a 4-1 lead on Jake Nielsen's marker the Lincoln power play went back to work. Ethen Frank put a shot off Peter Thome's blocker and into the back of the net to cap off the scoring. Lincoln finished the night 2-for-7 on the power play.

In net Peter Thome saw 24 shots recording 19 saves. At the other end Cayden Primeau notched 18 saves on 19 shots.

Omaha will play their final game of the Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon taking on Team USA at 4:00pm.

The Lancers and Stars will meet once again next weekend playing a home-and-home to round out the preseason.
