Five Run Fifth Sends Rome to Victory

Rome, GA - The Braves won their third straight game Monday night at State Mutual Stadium 5-3 against the Charleston Riverdogs before 1,597 fans. Rome has won nine of their last eleven games and their last three series.

The Riverdogs jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first. Jake Cave started the game with a single and later stole second. Mauricio Cabrera threw a wild pitch to advance Cave to third. Later in the inning, Dante Bichette singled to take the 1-0 lead.

Rome's fifth inning proved to be huge as the team scored five runs on five hits. Daniel Carroll led off the frame with a single and advanced to third on a wild pick off attempt by pitcher Brett Gerritse. Ross Heffley drilled a double to left field to score the Braves first run of the game. Kyle Wren singled and was able to advance Heffley to third. Jose Peraza was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With one out, Edison Sanchez smacked a double to left to clear the bases making the score 4-1. Carlos Franco walked, and Joey Meneses singled to score Sanchez from second for the 5-1 score.

Charleston scored runs in the sixth and ninth innings but Rome's bullpen held on to get the 5-3 win.

Braves starter Mauricio Cabrera (3-7) gets the win and Gerritse (8-7) the loss. Zach Jadofsky received his third save this year.
