Five Players Join Mallards from Iowa

MOLINE, Ill. - Forwards Brady Brassart and Pavel Jenys and defenseman Alex Gudbranson have been assigned to the Quad City Mallards by the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild while forward Jack Nevins and defenseman Jace Coyle will join the Mallards after being released from training camp tryout agreements by Iowa, the Mallards announced today.

Brassart, 23, split time between the Mallards and Iowa last year. The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pound Vernon, British Columbia, native scored four goals and picked up three assists in 39 AHL games and notched six goals and 11 assists to total 17 points in 28 games with the Mallards.

Now entering his third full season, Brassart has played 120 career AHL games- all with the Wild- during which he has rung up 13 goals, 16 assists and 29 points.

Brassart skated for five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Spokane Chiefs and Calgary Hitmen before turning pro. In his final junior campaign, Brassart matched or set career highs in goals (35), assists (50) and points (85) while helping Calgary to the 2013-14 WHL Central Division title. Brassart scored 112 goals and assisted on 157 to total 269 points in 323 career Western League games.

Jenys, 20, scored 15 goals and added 22 assists to total 37 points in 66 Ontario Hockey League games while splitting last season between the Sudbury Wolves and Niagara IceDogs. The 6-foot-3-inch, 203-pound native of Brno, Czech Republic, produced eight goals, nine assists and 17 points in 17 games to help propel the upstart IceDogs to the OHL J. Ross Robertson Cup finals.

Jenys was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the seventh round of the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft with the one hundred ninety-ninth overall choice. Jenys got his first taste of professional hockey when he played eight games- and registered three assists- for Iowa at the end of the 2014-15 campaign before returning to the junior ranks last season. He spent the bulk of 2014-15 with Sudbury, for whom he scored 15 times and collected 30 assists to total 45 points.

Gudbranson, 22, played in each of the Mallards' 72 games last season, recording five goals, 17 assists and 22 points in the process. The 6-foot-2-inch, 216-pound Orleans, Ontario native scored once and added three assists in 46 games with Iowa as a rookie in 2014-15.

Prior to turning pro, Gudbranson skated in the OHL for four seasons with first the Kinston Frontenacs and then the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Gudbranson accumulated 15 goals, 37 assists and 52 points in 243 career OHL games. He finished his junior career in 2013-14 by scoring seven goals, gathering eight assists and totaling 15 points in 66 games while helping the Greyhounds to a division title.

Nevins and Coyle skated in Iowa's camp after signing with the Mallards in the offseason. Nevins, a 23-year old product of Stittsville, Ontario, scored four times and collected 101 penalty minutes in 59 games with the AHL's Rochester Americans last season. Coyle, a 26-year old Sparwood, British Columbia, native, has returned to North America after two seasons in Europe. Last year he scored ten goals and added 24 assists for 34 points in 64 games while helping the Sheffield Steelers to Britain's Elite Ice Hockey League title.

The Mallards will open their twentieth season in the Quad Cities Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets at the iWireless Center.
