Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - A five-run first inning was more than enough for Tribe southpaw Steven Brault as the Indianapolis Indians cruised to a 7-1 win over the Norfolk Tides on Thursday night at Victory Field. Indy's offense sprayed 12 hits in their sixth consecutive triumph, its longest winning streak since June 5-11, 2015, when the Indians reeled off a seven-gamer.Indianapolis' (14-16) rotation continued its recent success, with Brault bookending solid performances from his rotation mates of Cody Dickson, Drew Hutchison, Clay Holmes and Tyler Eppler. Brault, backed by Indy's five-run outburst, threw six innings of one-run ball. Over the last six games, Indy's rotation has compiled a 4-0 record with a 1.30 ERA (5 ER in 34.2 IP). The Tribe jumped on Norfolk (14-19) starter Steve Johnson, sending 10 batters to the plate in the first. Phil Gosselin pounded the first of his two doubles in the game off the left-field wall, and he scored moments later on a sharp single by Eric Wood. After Johnson retired Elias Diaz for the second out in the frame, Jason Rogers, Eury Perez and Joey Terdoslavich all singled to make it 2-0. Anderson Feliz - celebrating his 25th birthday - then grounded a 3-2 offering from Johnson into right-center, clearing the bases while growing the Tribe's advantage to five. Brault (1-3) faced two over the minimum through five innings before yielding a run in the sixth on a two-out single by Robert Andino. The California native scattered three hits, walked one and struck out four. The Indians tallied another five knocks in the eighth, leading to two more runs. Gosselin's second double plated Adam Frazier from first base, and Rogers capped the scoring with his second hit of the night. Gosselin, Diaz, Rogers, Perez and Feliz each had two hits. Johnson (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing five earned runs on five hits over three frames. Dan Runzler and Edgar Santana combined for the final nine outs, lowering Indy's season ERA to 3.39. Indianapolis and Norfolk continue their four-game series with game two on Friday night at Victory Field. The Indians will send left-hander Cody Dickson (2-2, 5.79) to the mound, opposite Tides right-hander Jordan Kipper who is set to make his Triple-A debut. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. with fireworks to follow after the game.
