Fisher Cats Complete Sweep of Akron 7-5

Manchester - Derrick Loveless drilled a three-run homer to help lead the Fisher Cats to a three-game sweep of Akron with a 7-5 win on Thursday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Loveless ripped the first pitch he saw in the third inning for his seventh homer to stake the Fisher Cats to a 6-0 lead. Wilmer Font (1-0) earned his first win for New Hampshire (50-60), allowing three runs in five innings. He walked one and struck out two.

The Fisher Cats took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning against losing pitcher Michael Peoples (8-5). Reese McGuire doubled, moved to third on a single by Jason Leblebijian, scoring on a bunt by Roemon Fields. After Christian Lopes reached on a fielders choice, shortstop Richard Urena singled home two runs.

Ryan Lavarnway walked and McGuire singled ahead of the Loveless home run in the third inning. After Akron scored in the top of the fourth, New Hampshire made it 7-1 in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single by Leblebijian.

The RubberDucks (55-57) scored the game's final four runs on two-run homers by Greg Allen in the fifth and Luigi Rodriguez in the ninth. The Rodriguez' home run spoiled the Double-A debut of reliever Colton Turner, who did strike out three in his one inning. Chris Smith finished up with a strikeout of Claudio Bautista for his ninth save for the Fisher Cats. Brady Dragmire also worked 2.2 scoreless frames in relief with two strikeouts.

Erie makes its first appearance at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Friday at 7:05 p.m. to play the Fisher Cats. Hyundai presents an Atlas Fireworks Show after the game.
