Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs will meet in playoff game Tuesday night
September 3, 2007 - Eastern League (EL1) - New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Cody Ehlers had three hits and four RBI, while Noah Hall added three hits and a pair of RBI, to lead the Trenton Thunder to an 8-6 win over New Hampshire on Monday afternoon. The win gives Trenton an 83-59 record to end the regular season, but they still do not have an opponent for the playoffs.
With New Hampshire and Portland both losing (Sea Dogs lost 11-7 in New Britain), both teams have 70-72 records. This means a one-game playoff on Tuesday at 6:00 PM. The game will be played in Portland.
New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead in the third on a solo homer by Ryan Patterson, his 18th. They made it 2-0 in the 4th on a Rob Cosby RBI single, plating Sergio Santos, who had doubled.
Trenton scored four times off Fisher Cats starter Ricky Romero in the fifth inning for the lead. Hall started it off with an RBI single followed by an RBI double from Matt Carson to tie the game. Ehlers added a two-run single to put the Thunder ahead, 4-2.
The Fisher Cats took the lead back with three runs off Trenton starter Tyler Clippard in the 6th Inning. A solo homer from LF Dustin Majewski made it a 4-3 game with a two-run homer from 1B Rob Cosby giving New Hampshire the lead at 5-4. Cosby's homer, his 16th, was the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game. Clippard (2-1) ended up with the win allowing five runs in six innings.
Ehlers led another Thunder rally with a two-run double off reliever Brandon League in the 7th Inning for a 6-5 Trenton lead. The Thunder then added an RBI double from Reegie Corona and a run-scoring single by Hall in the 8th Inning for an 8-5 lead.
New Hampshire closed to within 8-6 in the 8th Inning on an RBI single by catcher Eric Kratz (3-for-4, 2 doubles, RBI), but Justin Pope worked a scoreless 9th Inning for the save, his sixth of the season. League (1-1) ended up with the loss, allowing two runs in one innings of relief.
The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs will play at 6:00pm in Portland with Kyle Yates (9-8, 4.33) on the mound for New Hampshire against Portland southpaw Tommy Hottovy (3-10, 5.77). The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs split the 28 games they played in the regular season. Radio coverage begins at 5:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter) with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.
If the Fisher Cats win Tuesday night, they would open up the Northern Division best-of-five playoffs at Trenton on Wednesday night. 2007 Eastern League Playoff Tickets and 2008 Season Tickets are on sale now. To purchase tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
