New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, and Fidelity Investments are once again teaming up to promote youth literacy by recognizing participants of the 'Hit the Books' Summer Reading Challenge. The pre-game ceremony will take place prior to the Tuesday night, August 12, 6:05pm doubleheader against the Harrisburg Senators at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

More than 600 children and 36 libraries around the Granite State participated in the Summer Reading Challenge, sponsored by Fidelity Investments. Children who successfully read five or more books over the summer were rewarded with tickets to Tuesday's doubleheader, and they will take part in an on-field parade and line up before the game to recognize their achievement. Fisher Cats' mascots Fungo and Slider visited libraries over the course of the summer to help promote the campaign.

"We are very pleased to see that the incentive of winning a ticket to a Fisher Cats game helped inspire so many kids to read books over the summer," said Fisher Cats Vice President of Business Operations Tim Restall. "Reading is meant to be a fun, year-round activity, and we are proud to partner with Fidelity Investments to help encourage kids to enjoy the benefits of reading."

"Through the Fidelity Investments Literacy Initiative, we strive to promote the value of learning and loving to read to New Hampshire citizens of all ages," said Fidelity's Regional General Manager Alison Stebbins. "The Summer Reading Challenge was a great success again this year, and that will be evident by the hundreds of smiling faces at Tuesday's ball game."

In addition to partnering for the 'Hit The Books' program, the Fisher Cats and Fidelity Investments together donated new baseball equipment to children from the YMCA of Greater Londonderry last month as part of Fidelity's 'Inspire the Future' program, designed to provide young people with the resources they need to develop and enhance their potential for future success in athletics and arts. The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Tuesday night, August 12, at 6:05pm with a doubleheader against the Harrisburg Senators, Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The first 1,000 kids in attendance receive a FREE Elliot Hospital Pediatrics Fisher Cats Backpack. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
