York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.) - Telvin Nash banged two home runs and Michael Burgess added one of his own as the York Revolution powered past the Long Island Ducks 8-3 on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs (33-25) pick up a game on both Sugar Land and Lancaster after losses by both Freedom Division contenders, going up on the second-place Skeeters by three full games and Lancaster by 3.5 games with 12 to go in the first half.

Matt Neil (2-0) earned the win with a solid outing, allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings while walking just one and striking out five on 93 pitches.

For the second straight night, the Revs got a seven-spot to a top-line Ducks (32-26) starter, pounding Mark Blackmar (4-2) to the tune of seven runs on 10 hits in five innings.

After Dan Johnson singled home Fehlandt Lentini to give Long Island a 1-0 lead in the first, York wasted no time getting it back and more.

Travis Witherspoon led off the home first with a single and Jason Repko walked. After a pair of strikeouts, Michael Burgess golfed one over the wall in right for a three-run shot and a 3-1 Revs lead.

Johnson plated another on a single in the top of the third to make it 3-2, but again the Revs had an answer.

Witherspoon singled to lead off the home half of the third and stole second, then after Repko advanced him with a groundout, Joel Guzman sent Witherspoon home with a base hit to left-center. A flyout and two singles later, Keith Castillo drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-2.

Long Island's final run came in the fourth on an Anthony Vega solo home run to left center.

Nash left the yard to left center for his first solo home run in the fifth, then Castillo managed a two-out double and came home on a Josh Wilson single to give the Revs a 7-3 cushion.

Ty'Relle Harris, Manny Corpas, Julio DePaula, and Ricardo Gomez combined for four shutout innings in relief of Neil, while Nash's second home run, this one to right center in the eighth, gave the game its final margin.

Nash's league-leading 14th and 15th home runs set a new Revs first half record, surpassing Eric Patterson's 13 homers in the first half of 2013.

Burgess's dinger was his fourth of the season and his first since returning to York from the Mexican League. He finished 2-for-5 with three driven in.

Witherspoon, Guzman, and Bryan Pounds also notched two-hit nights for the Revs.

Johnson led the way for the Ducks, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Notes: York clinches its first series win since June 7-9, also at home against Long Island. Witherspoon stole two bases, the first time all season a Revolution baserunner has swiped a pair. Gomez has now pitched 14.2 straight scoreless innings dating back to May 13, stretching his scoreless outing streak to 15. The Revs go for the sweep on Wednesday night as Frank Gailey (2-0, 1.96) squares off with John Brownell (4-2, 3.09). Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Wednesday marks the end of the six-game homestand with another Kids Eat Free night presented by PeoplesBank. Pick up a voucher at your local branch. It is also York County Employee Night. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
