Miami FC News Release

MIAMI - The Miami FC returns home this weekend to face Puerto Rico FC on Puerto Rican Heritage Night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Riccardo Silva Stadium at FIU. Tune into The CW South Florida or ESPN3 to watch the action live.

The Orange and Blue went on the road last weekend to face Indy Eleven in a league match.

Miami would get a lead early on, scoring in the 28th minute on a clever free kick design. With the dead ball at his feet, defender Hunter Freeman caught Indy sleeping as they got organized for the set piece. He played the through ball to a wide open defender Robert Baggio Kcira, who fired the ball across the middle of the box and had his shot finished by forward Vincenzo Rennella.

Miami dominated the second half, and their overwhelming possession and attacks paid off in the 72nd minute.

Midfielder Michael Lahoud freed up midfielder Kwadwo Poku with an over-the-top through ball, and Poku finished off the play with a cool, calm, and collected shot past Indy's goalkeeper.

The game ended 2-0, and Miami came away with three more points, while remaining in first place in the NASL standings.

While the league-leading offense is getting the headlines, it's Miami's defense that has been as important so far this season. The unit has given up just seven goals through eight games, shutting out opponents on three separate occasions: away against the New York Cosmos, at home against FC Edmonton, and away against Indy Eleven.

The Orange and Blue has trotted out a variety of different combinations for their back four, but they've all panned out. Mason Trafford, Robert Baggio Kcira, Rhett Bernstein, Hunter Freeman, Jonathan Borrajo, and Gabriel Farfan have all contributed. Even midfielder Michael Lahoud has picked up a pair of appearances as a right back.

Kcira's transition to left back from midfield has provided stability to the other defensive positions. Trafford has been able to hone his craft as a center back, after splitting time between center back and left back last season. Trafford, Kcira, and Freeman have started all eight games in defense for Miami.
