First Place Blaze Skin Visalia's Hide
July 17, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
Zack Littell felt that he accomplished everything possible with the Clinton LumberKings in the Midwest League. A recent promotion to the Advanced-A level has certainly not scared off the young right-hander.
Littell (W, 3-0) attacked the Visalia Rawhide early and often with his fastball before leaving after six innings of shutout ball as the Blaze (55-38) beat the Rawhide (53-40), 4-0.
Tyler Marlette continues to punish the opposition as he went 3-4 with a double and RBI.
Drew Jackson's hot July is also a thing of beauty for Bako. The trustworthy shortstop is batting .389 for the month after going 3-4 with a double and a run scored on Saturday evening.
Joel Payamps (L, 2-3) was nearly as good as Littell as he surrendered just one run in seven innings. The right-hander struck out nine batters and scattered six hits in defeat.
Vinny Nittoli delivered two quiet innings by fanning five of the six hitters he faced before Darin Gillies wrapped things up in the ninth.
Bakersfield upped their record to 18-5 (8 game lead) in the second half of the season while Visalia slipped to 7-16. The Blaze, who was at one point 1-11 against the Rawhide, has now won four consecutive games.
These two teams will meet in Game 2 on Sunday evening with first pitched scheduled for 7:45. David Gascon will provide all the action on TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
