Fireflies Top Braves 8-3 in Rain Shortened Affair

Rome, GA - The Columbia Fireflies defeated the Rome Braves Tuesday Night at State Mutual Stadium by an 8-3 final before a crowd of 5,073 fans. The game was called in the top of the eighth due to rain after a 32 minute delay.

The Fireflies started the scoring on a throwing error by Derian Cruz that plated Milton Ramos in the second inning. The game stayed at 1-0 until the seventh when Columbia erupted for five runs highlighted by Reed Gamache's (1) grand slam giving the Fireflies a 6-0 advantage. The Braves got on the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the inning making it a 6-3 contest. Brett Cumberland had an RBI double, Tanner Murphy and Kurt Hoekstra each added a sacrifice fly for Rome's three runs.

The Fireflies came back to add two more in the top of the eighth before the game was called shortly afterwards.

Harol Gonzalez (1-1) earns the win for Columbia and Jeremy Walker (0-1) suffers the loss for Rome.
