Flint Firebirds News Release

Flint, Mich.- Nicholas Caamano scored his 10th goal of the season, Everett Clark scored his sixth goal of the season and Ryan Moore picked-up an assist as the Flint Firebirds fell to the Owen Sound Attack 5-2 at the Dort Federal Event Center Friday night.

The Attack got on the board first as Jacob Friend scored his first goal of the season 3:52 into the first frame off a one-timer through traffic from the point.

Nick Suzuki gave the Attack a 2-0 lead with his 11th goal of the season when he converted on a two-on-one opportunity. Friend wrapped the puck around the boards behind his own net that was deflected into the neutral zone by Kevin Hancock and brought up the left-wing by Nick Pryce. While on a two-on-one with Suzuki, Pryce dished a pass to a wide-open Suzuki in the slot who fired it on net. Garrett Forrest got a piece of the shot but it rolled into the net as the Attack doubled their lead mid-way through the opening frame. Despite trailing by two goals, the Firebirds outshot Owen Sound 12-7 after 20 minutes of play.

Owen Sound extended their lead to three at the 14:11 mark of the second period after Kevin Hancock scored his seventh goal of the season by firing in a rebound from the left-circle. Santino Centorame intercepted a pass in the Attacks' zone and fed the puck to Suzuki at the right-wing-boards who chipped the puck out to Palmu at center. Palmu fired a shot from the high-slot that was saved by Forrest, but the rebound kicked-out to the left-circle where Hancock ripped a shot past Forrest blocker-side to earn the Attack a 3-0 lead.

Nicholas Caamano cut the deficit to two after he buried his 10th goal of the season on a rebound 15 seconds into the third frame. Ryan Moore stole the puck from an Attack defender from behind the cage and dished a pass to Kole Sherwood in front of the net. Sherwood one-timed the puck which was initially saved by the left pad of Michael McNiven but Caamano picked-up the rebound in the crease and tallied to make the score 3-1.

The Attack increased their lead to three goals again after Matt Schmalz scored his third goal of the season off a backhand shot. Zachary Roberts intercepted a pass at the right-wing-side of the Firebirds' zone and passed it to Schmalz at the left-circle. Schmalz fired a backhander on-net and found twine to give Owen Sound a 4-1 lead.

Aidan Dudas increased the Owen Sound's lead to four after he scored his third goal of the season 31 seconds later. Matthew Struthers stole the puck from Fedor Gordeev at the Firebirds' blue-line and quickly fed a pass to Suzuki at the right-circle. Suzuki fed a pass to an open Dudas who scored top-shelf, blocker-side to earn Owen Sound a 5-1 lead.

Everett Clark brought the game back within three after he scored his sixth goal of the season when he found the back of the net after being left alone in front. Alex Peters won a puck battle in the left-wing-corner of the Attacks' zone and fed a pass to Cullen Mercer at the top of the left-circle. Mercer found Clark wide-open crashing to the front of the net and backhanded the puck five-hole on McNiven to make the score 5-2 with 1:37 remaining in the final frame. Owen Sound held on to win the game 5-2.

The Firebirds outshot the Attack 30-25. Flint was scoreless on seven power-plays chances and Owen Sound were unable to convert on six opportunities. Forrest made 20 saves on 25 shots.
