Moore entered the Sarnia zone on a 3-on-2 and dished the puck to a streaking Hunter Holmes who blasted the biscuit on goal. Fazio made the initial save before Peters found twine from the left-side of the net, increasing Flint's lead to 2-0 after two periods of play.

Early in the third period and while on the power-play, Connor Hicks made an outstanding left pad save to maintain the Firebirds' two-goal lead prior to Fedor Gordeev scoring his first goal in a Firebirds' uniform. While on the man-advantage, Flint was buzzing in the Sarnia zone. Everett Clark found Gordeev at the point who lit-the-lamp 2:46 into the third period. Dennis Busby was also awarded an assist on the play.

Sarnia scored their first goal of the game at 14:26 of the third period when Jeff King skated into the Firebirds' zone up the right-wing wall and behind the net before dishing the puck to an open Ryan McGregor backdoor who converted from the right-side of the goal.
