Beckham Leads Tacoma To 7-6 Victory Over Salt Lake Motter, Vogelbach, Beckham combine for 10 hits, six RBI

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Second baseman Gordon Beckham led the Tacoma Rainiers (62-64) to a 7-6 victory over the Salt Lake Bees (64-62) in the series finale on Friday night at Smith's Ballpark.

Beckham finished the night going 4-for-5 with one run, one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. His four hits and four RBI were both tied for single-game highs this season.

First baseman Taylor Motter (3x4, 3 R, 2B, BB) collected a trio of hits and finished the series against the Bees going 11-for-17 with four extra-base hits and seven runs scored. Designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach joined in on the offensive outburst, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and two RBI. Right fielder Kyle Waldrop (2x4, BB) rounded out the Rainiers multi-hit performances.

Tacoma starting pitcher Christian Bergman (9-3) earned his team-leading ninth win of the season after working 5.0 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits.

Dean Kiekhefer was credited with his league-leading 16th hold after working 1.0 inning of scoreless relief. Thyago Vieira (1.0 IP) and Dan Altavilla (1.2 IP) polished off the Rainiers victory - Altavilla earned his sixth save of the year.

The Rainiers struck first in the top of the first, scoring twice and taking an early 2-0 lead. The Bees answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame to even the ballgame.

Beckham smoked his three-run home run in the top of the third, pushing Tacoma back out in front at 5-2. They added two more runs in the fourth on an RBI double from Vogelbach and a run-scoring single from Beckham, making the lead 7-2.

Salt Lake fought back with a two-run home run in the fourth and a run in the bottom of the eighth to make the Rainiers lead just one run headed into the final frame.

After Tacoma left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, Salt Lake scraped together a run in the bottom half of the inning and loaded the bases before Altavilla closed out the game with a strikeout of Sherman Johnson.

The Rainiers return home for a four-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas beginning on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. PT. Tacoma right-hander Max Povse (1-2, 9.77) will face off against El Paso lefty Dillon Overton (5-5, 7.44).
