FINAL Bowling Green 7 Beloit 6 - Five-Run Ninth Not Enough For
May 5, 2017 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Down 7-1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the Snappers charged back to within one run of the Bowling Green Hot Rods before the visitors shut the door to win 7-6. Beloit sent 10 men to the plate and extended the game four times while down to their final strike before Deivey Mendez struck out JaVon Shelby to take the series opener for Bowling Green.
The two biggest runs of the game for the Hot Rods were scored in the top of the ninth, which seemed innocent to create a six-run lead at the time. Jesus Sanchez singled home a pair to collect his third and fourth RBIs of the game. Bowling Green's Robbie Tenerowicz was a triple shy of the cycle by contributing a double in the third, a single in the fourth, and a seventh inning home run before walking in his fourth at bat. Tenerowicz also scored three of Bowling Green's runs.
The Snappers had plenty of opportunities to kick start the offense. Leadoff hitters got on base in the first four innings and again in the eighth and ninth innings. Beloit batters drew four walks and knocked out 10 hits, but 10 men were stranded. The team has left 36 runners on base through the first four games of the homestand.
Luke Persico was the bright spot on offense Friday by going 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Eric Marinez had his third consecutive multi-hit game in a 2-for-3 showing, and Beloit had two more hits from Trace Loehr. Nate Mondou went 0-for-5 at the plate and did not get on base, ending his 20-game on-base & 10-game hitting streaks.
