The Snappers sped ahead of Kane County 5-0 and held off the Cougars comeback try to split their series on Wednesday with a 7-6 win. Kyle Nowlin headlined a four-run first frame with a three-run homer, but the difference makers in the victory were single runs for the Snappers in three different innings. The win makes improves Beloit to 6-3 in day games at home and 16-2 when they score five runs or more.

Nowlin's homer on Wednesday was his fourth of the year, and he now leads the team with 24 RBIs. Luke Persico knocked in two runs for Beloit, one on his 10th double of 2017 in the fourth and another with a single in the sixth. Persico finished the day 3-for-4 with a walk. Eric Marinez drove home one run in the seventh, his second hit of the day, to extend the Snappers lead to three at the time but ended up being the deciding run in the game. Edwin Diaz went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the first inning.

Dakota Chalmers overcame surly command early on to hold the Cougars scoreless through four innings. He hit two batters, walked four, and threw two wild pitches, but he allowed just one hit, an infield single to Marcus Wilson. Chalmers struck out five Kane County hitters and tossed a season-high 75 pitches. Kane County scored twice in the fifth, sixth, and eighth off piggy-backer Ty Damron. Jesus Zambrano earned a four-out save for Beloit to complete the win.

Wednesday's game was 30 minutes tardy getting started. Both Snappers home games this season with first pitches scheduled for 11:00 a.m. were delayed a half hour, and each of their morning contests against Kane County this season had weather delays.
