Fighting Saints to Play in Sixth Consecutive Postseason
April 12, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
WHO: The Dubuque Fighting Saints Hockey Club.
WHAT: The Fighting Saints have accomplished something that no other team in the USHL has done since 2010. They have made the playoffs every single year, and in those five prior seasons, they captured the Clark Cup twice, and reached the Eastern Conference final three times. It is a momentous achievement for a junior hockey franchise, in which teams routinely go through seasons without a playoff berth due to rebuilding and restructuring. Under first-year head coach Jason Lammers, the Fighting Saints will play the Green Bay Gamblers in the first round of the 2016 Clark Cup Playoffs.
WHERE: The playoff series will begin at the Resch Center in Green Bay, but will return to the Mystique Community Ice Center for game three, and game four if necessary.
WHEN: The first-round playoff series begins this Sunday, April 17 at 3:05 p.m., and Monday, April 18 at 7:05 p.m. The Saints return home on Friday, April 22 at 7:35 p.m., and will host game four on Saturday, April 23 at 7:05 p.m. If a decisive game five is necessary, it will be played in Green Bay on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:05 p.m.
WHY: The Fighting Saints have established a new standard of continued excellence in the USHL. No team since the Saints' reinstatement into the USHL has won the Clark Cup more than them. Two of the four teams in the playoffs this season (Green Bay Gamblers, Bloomington Thunder) finished significantly out of the playoff picture last season, with Green Bay finishing last in the league. This kind of consistent excellence is seen in teams like the New England Patriots of the NFL, the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL, or the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA.
