Feierabend Pitches Express Past Isotopes

June 10, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Left-hander Ryan Feierabend fired a complete game Monday night, holding the Albuquerque Isotopes (33-31) to just two runs as the Round Rock Express (36-29) opened its four-game homestand with a 5-2 victory.

The southpaw dominated, registering four 1-2-3 innings, all from the fourth inning and later as he racked up six strikeouts en route to his third straight win and fourth on the season. The complete game was the first of the 2013 campaign for the Express, a pitching staff that entered tonight's game third in the PCL with a 3.93 team ERA. It was the first nine-inning complete game for the Express since LHP Martin Perez took the mound on August 20, 2012.

The offense started with a bang as third baseman Mike Olt launched his third home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the second that gave Feierabend a 1-0 cushion. The blast was a welcomed sight for the infielder after going 2-for-19 (.105) on the five-game road trip.

The lead did not last as one inning later second baseman Elian Herrera's two-run shot gave the "˜Topes a one-run advantage. The long ball would be Feierabend's lone blemish of the night as he held Albuquerque to just two hits over the remainder of the game.

Round Rock rallied, loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth. With first baseman Jim Adduci at the plate, Albuquerque starter Rob Rasmussen uncorked a wild pitch that allowed shortstop Yangervis Solarte to score from third, tying the game at two apiece. The Express offense wasn't finished when two batters later right fielder Jared Hoying collected his fourth RBI with the E-Train on a sacrifice fly to center, plating left fielder Joey Butler.

Adduci padded the Express lead two innings later in the sixth with an opposite-field solo shot, making the score 4-2. Hoying followed with a triple off the top of the right field wall, his second extra-base hit in three games which chased Rasmussen from the game, forcing the Isotopes to call upon the bullpen. Albuquerque reliever Jose Dominguez allowed a RBI double to second baseman Greg Miclat, closing the book on Rasmussen and giving Round Rock a three-run lead entering the final third of the ballgame.

Feierabend never wavered, recorded the final out on his 111th pitch of the night to give the Express a win in the series opener.

The Express continues the four-game set with the Isotopes Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Round Rock will don its 1959 Austin Senators jerseys on Turn Back Tuesday in which all tickets will be half price.
