FC Dallas News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (Sunday, December 10) - FC Dallas has traded defender Walker Zimmerman to 2018 Major League Soccer expansion side Los Angeles Football Club in exchange for $250,000 in General Allocation Money, $250,000 in Targeted Allocation Money and the No. 1 position in the MLS Allocation Ranking.
In exchange, LAFC receives FC Dallas' No. 11 ranking in the MLS Allocation Ranking.
"We'd like to thank Walker for his time in Dallas and everything he helped us achieve in the last few years," Technical Director Fernando Clavijo said. "He has been a big part of the club and we wish him the best going forward at LAFC."
The allocation process is the mechanism used to determine which MLS Club has first priority to acquire a player listed on the Allocation Ranking List. The list consists of select U.S. Men's National Team players, elite youth U.S. National Team players and former MLS players returning to MLS after joining a non-MLS club for a transfer fee greater than $500,000.
Zimmerman, 24, was drafted seventh overall by FC Dallas in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. A product of Furman University, he started seven matches that year, scoring two goals. Zimmerman topped the 1,000 minute mark for the first time in 2015, helping FC Dallas advance to the Western Conference Semifinal with a goal and assist effort off the bench in a shootout victory against Seattle Sounders FC on November 8, 2015. The Georgia-native had a breakout season in 2016, starting 30 matches and scoring four goals for the 2016 Supporters' Shield winners. Zimmerman started 18 matches for FC Dallas in 2017, adding a goal and an assist to his resume.
