FC Dallas News Release

FRISCO, Texas (Wednesday, May 24, 2006) - FC Dallas forward Carlos Ruiz has earned the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week award for Week 8 of the MLS season, in an online vote, for the first of his two goals in his side's 4-0 win over the New England Revolution on Saturday, May 20. The Guatemalan International, who now leads the team in scoring with five goals, stunned the Pizza Hut Park crowd in the 7th minute when he collected the ball from Simo Valakari in the center of the park and took once touch before lobbing Revolution keeper Matt Reis from 40 yards to double the Dallas lead to 2-0.

Ruiz, who will be in action tonight when FC Dallas takes on the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium, has now scored in each of his team's last four games. This puts him within reach of equaling the club record of five straight games with a goal set by Damian in 1997 and Jason Kreis in 2002.

This was the sixth time this season that an FC Dallas player had been nominated for Goal of the Week, but it is the first time that one has won the award. Kenny Cooper, Greg Vanney, Roberto Mina, Aaron Pitchkolan and Ronnie O'Brien have all had goals nominated for Goal of the Week, only to lose out in the online voting. It is the third time in the last three years that a Ruiz strike has been voted Goal of the Week and the fourth time that an FC Dallas player has garnered the honor.
