FC Dallas News Release

FRISCO, Texas (Feb. 17, 2011) - A native of Plano, Texas, FC Dallas Academy defender Kellyn Acosta started and played 90 minutes in the U.S. Under-17 National Team's 3-1 win against Cuba in their opening group match of the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship on Monday.

A draw between Cuba and Panama on Wednesday sent U.S. U-17 head coach Wilmer Cabrera's side into the quarterfinals, but first place in Group B is still up for grabs. The U.S. has three points through one game while Cuba has only one through two games, meaning the U.S. is guaranteed to finish in either first or second place in Group B. A win or a draw against Panama on Friday, Feb. 18, would give the young Americans the top place in the group. Kickoff from Jarrett Park Stadium in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is set for 3:30 p.m. CT.

Four FCD Academy members make U.S. U-18 Men's National Team appearance Three FC Dallas Academy players are currently at this week's U.S. U-18 Men's National Team training camp. Defenders Michael Ambrose, Boyd Okwuonu and Jack Coleman are at the camp that runs from Feb. 12 to Feb. 20 in Phoenix, Ariz. FC Dallas' fifth Home Grown player, Jonathan Top attended the camp initially, but was sent home earlier this week after picking up an injury. Coleman made starts in all 13 of his appearances for FC Dallas this season. Ambrose has started all 10 of the games he has played for the FCD U-18s. Okwuonu has also started in all nine of his appearances for the squad. Top has started in nine of his 10 appearances for the team and has scored eight goals on the season.

The FC Dallas U-18s sit atop the Texas Division with a record of 11-1-3 this season, with 32 goals scored and only nine goals against. The team's last league game was a 4-1 win over Solar Chelsea SC on Dec. 18 at Pizza Hut Park. They return to Development Academy play on April 2 at Pizza Hut Park when they face Lonestar SC Academy.

FC Dallas Academy to travel to Spain, play against Real Madrid Academy This year's spring break trip will take the FC Dallas Academy U-16 and U-18 teams to a week of culture and competition in Madrid, Spain. The teams will leave Dallas on Tuesday, March 15 and return from Madrid Wednesday, March 23. While in Madrid, the teams will play four matches each against academy teams from Getafe, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and a fourth opponent to be determined. The FC Dallas squads will train and play at the Spanish National Team facility Ciudad de Futbol. The boys will get the chance to watch a Real Madrid first team training session and see a first division La Liga match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. They will also get a tour of Bernabeu stadium and site-seeing tours of Madrid and Toledo.

FC Dallas's U-18 Academy Team to play in Dallas Cup FC Dallas' U-18 Academy team will make their second consecutive appearance in the Super Group of Dallas Cup XXXII this April. Other confirmed Super Group participants include the youth teams of international powers Arsenal, Barcelona and SC Corinthians Paulista. The Dallas Cup Super Group has historically featured breakout performances from future international stars like Manchester United's Javier Hernandez "Chicharito" and the LA Galaxy's David Beckham. Last year, Ruben Luna scored a golazo against Chelsea to cement his status as a future FC Dallas star. FC Dallas lost two of their three Super Group matches in last year's Dallas Cup against Chelsea FC and FC Monterrey and earned a 2-1 win over Alajuelense of Costa Rica. Dallas Cup XXXII will take place at Pizza Hut Park April 17 - 24, 2011.
