Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers banged out 13 hits to back up the pitching of Marcos Diplan and Freddy Peralta in a 7-3 win over the Kane County Cougars Saturday night in front of 6,026 fans at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The pitching duo combined to strikeout fifteen Cougars while allowing just one earned run.

The Timber Rattlers (20-22) took control early with three runs in the first inning. Trent Clark walked to start the inning and Monte Harrison followed with a single. After Mitch Ghelfi bunted into an out at third, Isan Diaz reached on an infield single to load the bases. Jake Gatewood made it 1-0 with a single. Ghelfi would score on an error. Later in the inning, Alan Sharkey drove in Diaz with another single.

Luis Aviles led off the Wisconsin second inning with a triple and Harrison knocked him in with a ground out for a 4-0 lead.

The Cougars (21-20) scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fourth against Diplan. Eduardo de Oleo reached on an error with two outs. Joe Munoz made the Rattlers pay with a long home run to the Cougars bullpen in left-center to cut Wisconsin's lead in half.

Diplan worked five innings, allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out seven to put himself in line for his fifth win of the season.

Mitch Ghelfi singled to start the Wisconsin fifth inning, but he was still at first with two outs. Then, David Denson had a 3-0 count when he crushed a home run to the beach beyond the wall in right-center. The homer was Denson's third of the season and gave the Rattlers a 6-2 lead. Max McDowell and Sharkey followed with singles to drive Kane County starting pitcher Bo Takahashi out of the game. Aviles, who had three hits in the game, greeted Cougars reliever Mason McCullough to the game with a single to drive in McDowell.

Peralta took over for Diplan at the start of the sixth inning and retired the first seven batters he faced before walking Robelys Reyes. Zach Nehrir sent Reyes to third with a hit-and-run single to right. Peralta would throw a wild pitch to allow Reyes to score, but bounced back to strike out the next two batters to finish the eighth inning with the Rattlers still up 7-3.

Peralta earned his second save of the season by pitching around a leadoff single in the top of the ninth. He allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out eight in the game.

The crowd of 6,026 was the largest home crowd for the Timber Rattlers so far in 2016.
