San Diego Sockers News Release

HARRISBURG, PA--Brian Farber netted a hat trick, including back-to-back short-handed goals in the third quarter, as the San Diego Sockers ran out to a 10-3 win over the Harrisburg Heat, San Diego's 48th consecutive victory. Kraig Chiles and Aaron Susi added two goals each for the Sockers (11-0), who captured their 20th straight road victory and 35th straight in the PASL regular season.

"Those short handed goals were the turning point in tonight's game," said Sockers mid/forward Anthony Medina, who contributed a pair of assists to the cause, "The Heat were hoping to get back in it and there's nothing more deflating for a team than to give up goals on the power play."

A wild first quarter saw nine of the game's thirteen goals slotted home, as the Sockers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead behind Chiles' PASL-leading 40th and 41st goals of the season. Eduardo Velez had a goal and two assists in the quarter, while sloppy Sockers defense led to a pair of point-blank goals for Harrisburg. The most spectacular moment of the game was reserved for Farber, who scored a brilliant bicycle kick goal from the top of the Heat crease, firing a right-footed shot over the back of his head and into the top of the goal for his 18th tally of the season.

The Sockers led 6-3 after the opening fifteen minutes, then shut out the Heat for the remainder of the game, scoring the last five goals of the night unanswered. Chris Toth (5-0) made eleven saves in goal for San Diego and remains undefeated all-time in PASL play, improving to 12-0.

Aaron Susi's 15th goal of the season made it 7-3 Sockers just under a minute into the third quarter. With 11:36 to play in the quarter, Sockers midfielder Chiky Luna was blue carded for a slide tackle, putting Harrisburg on the power play. Farber quickly turned the tables on the Heat (4-8), knocking in a short-handed header off a Ze Roberto setup, then stealing a pass off the restart and running in clean on goal for his third goal of the game and 20th of the season.

PASL commissioner Kevin Milliken announced at halftime that the Sockers have been confirmed as the host team for the upcoming PASL Ron Newman Cup Championships on March 10th and 11th at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.

The Sockers next travel to Texas to take on the Dallas Sidekicks (9-2) at the Allen Event Center. The game will be broadcast at 4pm on Sunday, January 27th on ESPN Radio 1700-AM.
