Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - The Odessa Jackalopes announced today that forward Mike Ramsay and defenseman Garrett Gruenke will return for the 2009-10 Central Hockey League season.

Ramsay just finished his second season in a Jackalopes uniform and set career highs with 36 assists and 51 points. He also added 15 goals.

"It should a great year," said Ramsay. "We had a good season last year. We gained some experience by getting to the Conference Finals and we're getting some familiar faces back so we're going to try and build on things. I'm looking forward to it and looking for a championship next season."

"Mike is a sparkplug for us, and he brings a lot to the table," said Jackalopes head coach Paul Gillis. "He's not only a solid player, but he's very important to our dressing room."

During his tenure with the Jackalopes, the Newmarket, Ontario native has scored 95 points (39 goals, 56 assists) in 117 games. Last season Ramsay hit a milestone scoring the 100th point of his pro career on November 6, 2008 with an assist against the Laredo Bucks in the Jackalopes' 5-2 win.

Gruenke (GREEN-kee) finished his first season of pro hockey last year appearing in 63 games and tallying up 149 penalty minutes. Those 149 PIM's were third among rookies last season and his 19 major penalties were best in the league for first-year players.

"Last year was a great season for us, and I'm glad to come back and try to build on last year's success," said Gruenke.

Prior to beginning his pro career with the Jackalopes last season, Gruenke graduated from St. Thomas University where he played NCAA Division-III hockey for four years. He was named All-MIAC in his senior season.

"Garrett really progressed last season, and established himself as a reliable defenseman at this level," said Gillis. "He has a physical presence, which is important, but we were pleased with how much he improved as the season went along. We're excited to have him back."

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team will begin its 13th season in October.
