Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons in conjunction with the team's National Hockey League affiliate, the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning, today announced the signing of forward Ryan Vesce. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Vesce spent the 2004-05 campaign playing in Sweden for Rogle BK where he averaged more than a point a game collecting 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points in 43 games. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound native of Lloyd Harbor, NY also had a plus/minus rating of +14 last season. Prior to his time with Rogle BK, Vesce completed an impressive four year collegiate career with the Cornell Big Red posting 46 goals and 82 assists for 128 points in 131 games played.

"The Tampa Bay college scouts who saw him at Cornell and the European scouts who saw him last year in Sweden are convinced he is going to be a very exciting player in the American Hockey League," said Falcons general manager and president Bruce Landon. "He has outstanding speed and great offensive instincts. We look forward to watching him compete for a job at our camp."

During the 2002-03 season, Vesce led the Big Red in scoring as a junior with 19 goals and 26 assist for 45 points in 36 games. Vesce's 45 points marked the first time a Cornell player had reached the 40-point plateau since the 1995-96 campaign and he also became the first Big Red player since Joe Nieuwendyk to reach 100 career points during his junior season.

The Falcons will open their 12th American Hockey League season on Saturday, October 8 when they host the Portland Pirates at the newly renovated MassMutual Center. Season and group packages are now available, including Flex Packs and our new exclusive Club Seats. For more information, please contact the Falcons team office at (413) 739-3344.
