Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team has agreed to terms with right wing Josh Ciocco and defensemen Justin Sawyer and Daryl Marcoux for the 2007-08 season.
Ciocco was acquired in a trade with the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for future considerations, and enters his first full pro season. The 23-year-old made his pro debut with Wheeling at the end of last season registering one assist and seven penalty minutes in four games. During his four years at UNH, he appeared in 136 games, scoring 22 goals and adding 33 assists for 55 points. Last season, he served as the Wildcats' captain, and was also honored as the team's unsung hero. Ciocco was teammates with John Morlang with Prince George of the BCHL in 2000-01.
"Josh gives us another look on the right side," Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Matt Thomas said. "His competitiveness and character are welcomed assets to our team."
The 2007-08 season marks Sawyer's second full season as a pro. Last season, he appeared in 54 games with the ECHL's Columbia Inferno and accumulated 182 penalty minutes, while also seeing two games of action in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound blueliner made his pro debut with the Marlies in 2005-06 seeing action in 13 games.
"Justin is a big physical defenseman that will add some toughness to our line-up," Thomas said.
Marcoux made a brief appearance in the ECHL last season with the Trenton Titans, going scoreless in two games. During a four-season run at Princeton University, the 23-year-old tallied five goals and added 11 assists for 16 points to go along with 78 penalty minutes.
"Daryl provides us with another young, capable first-year defenseman," Thomas said. "He comes highly recommended by his college coach, former Falcon player and coach Guy Gadowsky."
The Falcons open the 2007-08 season on Friday, October 19, hosting the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:30 p.m. for an Opening Night Extravaganza, presented by Eye Q Vision Care. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under receive a replica Falcons' jersey.
