October 3, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons, AHL affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, kick off their 2012-2013 preseason on Wednesday night when they meet the Providence Bruins at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass at 7:05 p.m. The Falcons will then return home to host the Worcester Sharks on Friday and the P-Bruins on Saturday to close out the preseason, with both games at the MassMutual Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets to the Falcons' home preseason games are $12 and can be purchased at the MassMutual Center Box Office or by logging onto Ticketmaster.com.

The camp is the club's first under new head coach Brad Larsen, who served as an assistant for the team during each of the past two seasons. Larsen helped the Falcons earn 71 wins over the last two years, their highest victory total over a consecutive-season span since they took two points 80 times over the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 campaigns. The 35-year-old is joined by assistants Nolan Pratt, who had the same role with Springfield in 2011-2012, and Jared Bednar, who served as the head coach for the Peoria Rivermen during the last two years.

The Falcons have 38 players in their training camp, 25 of whom skated for Springfield in 2011-2012. Among the notable names in Springfield's training camp are center Ryan Johansen, the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by Columbus who skated all of 2011-2012 with the Blue Jackets, Ryan Craig, a 10th-year left wing who returns to the Falcons after serving as the club's captain in 2005-2006, and second-year right wing Cam Atkinson, who led the Falcons as a rookie with 29 goals last season.

The Falcons and the P-Bruins will meet 10 times this season, including twice during the opening month of the season, while Springfield and Worcester will see each other on eight occasions, with the first battle occurring in January.

Single-game tickets to see the Falcons in the 2012-2013 regular season are on sale now and can be purchased at the MassMutual Center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by logging onto Ticketmaster.com. Ticket packages for the Falcons this season start as low as $112. Call (413) 739-GOAL (4625) for more information.
