Falcon Park Gets Safety Upgrade

Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, NY - The Auburn Doubledays of the New York-Penn League, Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, and the City of Auburn are pleased to announce that protective netting has been installed on top of the first and third base dugouts at Falcon Park. The netting was installed to meet a recommendation issued by Major League Baseball in December 2015.

The recommendation, issued at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville and subsequently endorsed by Minor League Baseball, is that teams shield fans from balls and bats in all field-level seats within 70 feet of home plate.

The new forward facing netting at Falcon Park will shield fans sitting in box seat sections 102 and 103 on the first base side and sections 108 and 109 on the third base side from balls and bats that enter those sections at high speeds. In all, 160 box seats will be protected by the new netting. Sections 104-107 will remain protected by both a forward facing and overhead net.

"I applaud the City of Auburn for making the decision to install additional netting at Falcon Park," said Doubledays General Manager Mike Voutsinas. "Fan safety is of the utmost importance to our organization and we know that this additional measure of protection for our fans far outweighs any potential negatives. One of the many great features of Falcon Park is the proximity of the seating bowl to the playing field and we are glad that our fans will continue to enjoy Doubledays baseball up-close while being protected from the dangers presented by the game."

Season ticket holders who wish to move their seat location out of or into the sections where the new netting was installed may do so by contacting Nate Deavers in the Doubledays ticket office at 315-255-2489 or ndeavers@auburndoubledays.com.

The Doubledays will open the 2016 season on Friday, June 17 at home against the Batavia Muckdogs at 7:05 p.m. Season ticket plans as well as tickets for the recently announced Meet the Manager Night with Jerad Head to be held on Friday, May 27 are on sale now.
