Express Snap Nashville Streak, 8-3
May 3, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Brian Bogusevic was 3-for-3 with four RBI, including a game-winning, two-run single in the seventh, to lead the Round Rock Express to an 8-3 victory over the Nashville Sounds in Monday night's series opener at The Dell Diamond. The Express (8-16) snapped the Sounds' seven-game winning streak with the victory. Nashville (16-7), which sports the Pacific Coast League's best record, entered the game 11-1 on the road with a six-game road winning streak.
Bogusevic, who also homered for the second consecutive game, snapped a 3-3 tie with his two-run single in the seventh. Chris Shelton followed with an RBI single, staking the Express to a 6-3 lead. Round Rock added a pair of runs in the eighth on Edwin Maysonet's two-run double to cap the scoring.
Wilton Lopez (2-1) earned the victory, working around an error and a two-out single with one strikeout in a scoreless seventh inning. Gary Majewski and Casey Daigle pitched the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, without allowing a run to close the game. Starter Wesley Wright allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
Tim Dillard (0-2) took the loss for Nashville in relief. He allowed three runs on five hits and a strikeout in 1.1 innings of work. Starter Chase Wright left after facing three batters in the sixth inning; he surrendered three runs, one of which scored after he exited, on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Ray Olmedo's bases-loaded walk with two outs in the second gave Nashville the game's first lead. Bogusevic's fourth-inning homer tied the game at 1-1. It was Round Rock's sixth home run in the last three games, the last five of which have been solo shots. Nashville answered in the top of the fifth as Adam Heether drew a leadoff walk, and Erick Almonte followed with a two-run homer.
However, the Express out-scored the Sounds 7-0 the rest of the way. Oswaldo Navarro tripled to open the sixth, and Bogusevic followed with an RBI single. After a Shelton single, Matt Kata delivered a game-tying RBI double. Maysonet and Yordany Ramirez each had singles in the seventh before Navarro was hit by a pitch to load the bases, setting the stage for Bogusevic's game-winning hit.
Shelton was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Maysonet was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Each Express starter hit safely save Drew Locke, who walked and scored, and Wright. Navarro and Bogusevic each scored twice. Bogusevic reached safely in all four plate appearances, walking in the first inning.
Almonte led Nashville at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Trent Oeltjen added a pair of hits, including a double.
Round Rock and Nashville continue the series Tuesday with a 12:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Josh Banks (1-3, 3.64 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Marco Estrada (1-0, 2.74 ERA) gets the nod for the Sounds.
