Express Roll over Isotopes
June 10, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Ryan Feierabend threw an eight-hit, complete-game victory to lead the Round Rock Express to a 5-2 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes at Dell Diamond, spoiling the Triple-A debut of Rob Rasmussen.
The only runs that Feierabend (4-1) allowed came on a two-run home run to Elian Herrera in the third inning. The Topes followed with a walk to Tony Gwynn, Jr. and a single by Rusty Ryal, and had Feierabend on the ropes. But Matt Angle bounced into a double play and the Topes wouldn't have two runners on base in any inning again.
Feierabend threw 111 pitches, 77 for strikes. He struck out six, walked one, and retired the final nine batters of the game.
Rasmussen (0-1) was called up three days earlier from Double-A Chattanooga, where he'd compiled a 2.42 ERA and a tidy .211 opponents batting average in 12 games (11 starts).
After a scoreless first inning, Rasmussen allowed a solo home run to Mike Olt in the second inning. The Express took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning after a double by Yangervis Solarte, two walks, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly by Jared Hoying.
With two outs in the sixth, Jim Adducci hit an opposite field home run, then Jared Hoying tripled to chase Rasmussen. He would be charged with five runs in 5 2/3 innings. He walked four, struck out two and allowed five hits.
Flame-throwing Jose Dominguez, who was also making his Triple-A debut, allowed a double to score Hoying. Dominguez struck out a batter in the seventh, walked two, hit 102 mph on the stadium radar gun in the process, and a 6-4-5-2 double play ended the inning.
The Isotopes (33-31) have alternated a win and a loss in 10 consecutive games.
Game two of the four-game series is Tuesday with Blake Johnson the mound for the Isotopes against Round Rock's Brad Mills. First pitch is at 6:05 Mountain Time. Catch all the action on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
