Express Rebounds with 9-5 Win over 51's

May 9, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Round Rock Express News Release

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Round Rock Express (19-14) avoided tying its season-long losing streak with a 9-5 victory over the Las Vegas 51's (15-16) on Wednesday night.

An offensive explosion propelled the Express as the 4-5-6 hitters in the E-Train lineup combined to go 8-for-12 (.667) with six RBI and six runs scored. Right fielder Jim Adduci finished the game with a season-high four hits, going 4-for-5 with three RBI including a three-run jack in the first inning.

After failing to score through the first seven innings last night, the Express wasted no time getting on the board behind southpaw Ryan Feierabend. The E-Train pounded out nine hits and six runs over the first three innings, including five runs in the top of the first before Feierabend could step foot on the mound.

With one out in the opening frame, shortstop Jurickson Profar and first baseman Chris McGuiness slapped back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Third baseman Yangervis Solarte kept the offense rolling with a RBI single to right that plated Profar for a 1-0 lead. After another RBI single off the bat of left fielder Aaron Cunningham to score McGuiness, Adduci followed with his blast to give Round Rock a 5-0 cushion.

Solarte delivered again in the top of the second with a soft fly ball that fell into left field, bringing Profar around from second once again to extend the Express lead to 6-0.

Once the southpaw stepped to the mound he exerted his dominance, holding the 51's to just three hits over the first four innings before the offense took over again in the top of the fifth. After loading the bases with no outs, Las Vegas starter Carlos Torres was lifted as the 51's turned to their bullpen in hopes of limiting the damage. When all was said and done, the E-Train put three more runs on the board for a 9-0 advantage through four and a half innings.

Feierabend ran into trouble for the first time in the bottom of the sixth, allowing a one-out triple to second baseman Wilmer Flores before walking right fielder Eric Campbell. With two on, third baseman Zach Lutz took a 2-1 offering over the centerfield wall for a three-run shot, cutting the Round Rock lead to six at 9-3.

The E-Train bullpen managed to hold off a Las Vegas comeback, combining to close out the final 3.2 innings after allowing two runs on three hits. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, right-hander Cory Burns entered the game to retire Flores on a ground out, earning his eighth save and securing Feierabend's first win with Round Rock in 2013.

The Express will continue its road trip with game three of four against the 51's in Las Vegas tomorrow night at 9:05 p.m. CST. Right-hander Colby Lewis (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make a major league rehab start for the Express and will be opposed by RHP Chris Schwinden (2-3, 5.65 ERA). After four games in Tucson (May 11-14) to conclude the trip, the Express will return home for eight games beginning with Colorado Springs on May 16.
