Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - The Express (5-12) lost its ninth home game of the season Saturday night, this time at the hands of Memphis (10-6), 8-4.

Jarrett Hoffpauir struck first for Memphis, launching a two-out, 2-2 pitch from Round Rock starter Jose Capellan onto the left field berm for the early 1-0 lead.

The Express took the lead back briefly in the fourth inning, tying the game on a double by Lou Santangelo that scored Mark Saccomanno, and then taking the lead when Matt Kata dropped a safety squeeze for a single to score Santangelo.

Memphis took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning when Nick Stavinoha hit a three-run home run to the second level of the home run porch in left field off of Capellan, making it 4-2.

The Redbirds scored three more runs on four hits in the sixth inning off of Capellan, widening the lead, and then Hoffpauir hit one more out off of reliever Casey Daigle to cap the scoring for Memphis.

Express catcher Brian Esposito cut into the lead with a home run in his first at-bat ever for Round Rock, but the solo shot still left the Express four runs short. Yordany Ramirez stayed hot for the Express, going 3-for-4.

Capellan allowed seven runs on eight hits in six innings of work, striking out five, but walking five, as well.

Round Rock tries to even the series Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. with RHP Alberto Arias squaring off against Memphis RHP Adam Ottavino.
