Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Julio Borbon's two-run double keyed a four-run second inning as the Round Rock Express edged the Nashville Sounds 6-5 in Thursday night's Pacific Coast League series opener at The Dell Diamond. The Express (46-34) moved to 12 games over .500 with the win, matching their high-water mark on the season. The Sounds (37-43) snapped a five-game winning streak.

Trailing 1-0, Round Rock batted around in the pivotal second inning. Joey Butler tied the game with an RBI double ahead of Borbon's two-run single. Omar Quintanilla capped the frame with an RBI single. Nashville did not go quietly, though, pulling to within a run thanks to solo homers from Brandon Boggs and Caleb Gindl in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

The Express pushed their lead to 6-3 with two runs on two hits and a costly Nashville error in the bottom of the sixth. Mike Napoli provided what proved to be the game-deciding run with a sacrifice fly. The Sounds again pulled to within a run in the seventh on Brett Carroll's two-run homer. However, Darren O'Day retired four of the next five batters he faced, and Tommy Hunter retired the side in order in the ninth for his first save.

Starter Scott Feldman (2-0) earned the win, allowing three runs on eight hits over 6.0 innings with one walk and one strikeout. O'Day surrendered three hits, including Carroll's home run, over 2.0 innings but did not walk a batter and struck out five. Hunter struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Nashville starter Chase Wright (5-5) took the loss; he surrendered four runs on eight hits and three walks over 4.1 innings with four strikeouts.

Borbon finished 4-for-5 on the night with two runs scored. He also stole third base twice; he now has swiped third base seven times in 24 games with the Express. Quintanilla was 3-for-5, while Esteban German was 2-for-2 and walked twice. Butler had two doubles and two runs scored.

Gindl was 3-for-4, while Carroll and Eric Farris both had two-hit nights.

Nashville scored a run on two hits in the top of the first. Farris walked with one out, stole second and later scored on Erick Almonte's fielder's choice.

Round Rock and Nashville continue their four-game series Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Brandon Webb (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is scheduled to make his first rehab assignment start with the Express. Southpaw Sam Narron (4-3, 3.70 ERA) is the announced starter for the Sounds.
