ROUND ROCK, Texas - Scoring sevens runs in the final two innings, the Memphis Redbirds pulled away to defeat the Round Rock Express 12-4 Monday night at The Dell Diamond. It was the largest margin of defeat for the Express (12-19), although it was only the fourth loss of more than three runs for the season.
Memphis (14-16) salvaged a series-split winning the final game of the four-game set. Five Redbirds' hitters had multiple hits, including Daniel Descalso who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and Ruben Gotay going 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Redbirds' starter Evan MacLane (2-3) earned the win, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. MacLane had three strikeouts and no walks. Relievers' Oneli Perez, Fernando Salas and Matt Scherer each tossed a scoreless inning apiece.
Polin Trinidad (1-1) was credited with the loss, giving up five runs in 5.1 innings. One run was earned, however, as he struck out four and walked two. Sammy Gervacio didn't allow a run in 1.2 innings, while striking out two with two walks. Jonah Bayliss allowed three runs in the eighth and Evan Englebrook allowed four runs in the ninth.
Brian Bogusevic finished 2-for-4 and is now hitting .463 (19-for-41) in 10 games in May. Chris Shelton went 1-for-4 and has now hit safely in nine of the last 10 games.
Round Rock begins its third road trip of the season Tuesday, opening a four-game series at Salt Lake. A 7:35 p.m. CDT first pitch is at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Express will send right-hander Roy Corcoran (0-5, 3.26) to the mound, opposed by right-hander Sean Sullivan (3-2, 4.21) for the Bees.
