Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - After falling into an early 2-0 hole, the Round Rock Express (55-45) powered its way to a 10-4 victory over the Iowa Cubs (49-51) in game two of a four-game set at Dell Diamond Friday night.

A late string of scoring helped the Express overcome the two-run deficit as the offense posted 10 runs over three straight innings to back starter Scott Richmond's solid outing. With the win, Round Rock snapped a four-game losing streak to the Cubs.

The I-Cubs took advantage of Express miscues in the second to put the first two runs on the board. After a leadoff single, shortstop Leury Garcia made a nice play on a ground ball up the middle off the bat of Iowa designated hitter Edgar Gonzalez, but his flip to second was off line, allowing both runners to reach safely. Another knock by third baseman Josh Vitters loaded the bases before center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha plated the first run with a single to center. After a pair of strikeouts, catcher Robinson Chirinos misplayed a ball behind the plate, bringing the second run home on a passed ball.

Iowa starter Brooks Raley was stifling through the first four innings, holding Round Rock to just one hit, but the Express exploded in the fifth. The E-Train offense drew a pair of walks to start the frame before right fielder Joey Butler and Chirinos could drive home the first two Round Rock runs on back-to-back singles, knotting the game at two. The offense wasn't finished as center fielder Jim Adduci brought home two more on a two-run double to left-center, putting the Express ahead 4-2. After tacking on another run and loading the bases on Raley, the I-Cubs went to the bullpen, bringing in Nick Struck who fanned third baseman Mike Olt to end the inning.

Richmond settled in after the rocky second inning, holding Iowa scoreless through the next four frames before the I-Cubs put two runs back on the board in the sixth. Gonzalez began the inning with a single and was followed by a two-run home run from Vitters which cut the lead to one at 5-4.

Adduci fired right back with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth when he launched his 12th home run of the season onto the left field berm, giving the E-Train breathing room at 7-4. Garica followed with a double and used his wheels to score the eighth Express run, stealing third and scoring on a throwing error by Iowa catcher Luis Flores.

Richmond exited with a four-run lead after working through the sixth inning, allowing four runs while punching out four. First baseman Mike Bianucci built upon the four-run advantage in the seventh, belting a two-run bomb of his own as the E-Train reached double figures with a 10-4 lead.

The combination of Johan Yan, Ryan Rodebaugh and Nate Robertson locked down the game out of the bullpen, each logging a scoreless inning of relief. Richmond (3-3) picked his first win since June 14 while Raley (6-7) suffered the loss.
