Everett Silvertips News Release

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Brian King's pair of third period goals and Devon Skoleski's snipe in the sixth round delivered the Everett Silvertips with a 5-4 comeback shootout victory over the Portland Winterhawks in a preseason tournament Thursday hosted by the Tri-City Americans at Toyota Center.

Overager Graham Millar dropped three assists, Connor Dewar and Eetu Tuulola cashed in a goal each and goaltender Mario Petit recovered from a 3-0 deficit in the first eight minutes to post 30 saves and five saves on six shots in the shootout. The Silvertips earned their second preseason win, moving their record in exhibition play to 2-2-1-0.

Bronson Sharp went five-hole on Petit at 3:55 and Ty Kolle stashed a backhander on a puck in traffic to put Portland ahead at 7:03 for a 2-0 edge, followed by Sharp's second goal of the game 31 seconds later for a three goal lead.

The Silvertips began their recovery with Dewar's third of the preseason, a deflection at the net off Kyle Walker's shot with 2:43 remaining in the first period for a two goal deficit. Petit made a point-blank stop on Evan Weinger, who cruised to the net at top speed to keep the Silvertips within a pair of goals, but Weinger eventually cashed in on a rebound shortly after a power play expired at 12:24 of the second period, restoring Portland's lead a three goal cushion.

Tuulola brought the Silvertips back to a 4-2 deficit with 2:02 to play on a one timer from the bottom of left circle that went top shelf, his second goal of the preseason, set up by a Matt Fonteyne feed behind the Portland net on a power play.

Everett carried momentum and took it further into the third period with back-to-back goals by King, first on a stuff at the post at 17:58 to cut the deficit to 4-3. King then finished a Dawson Butt feed with 4:27 to play in regulation, leveling the game at 4-4.

After a scoreless overtime, Skyler McKenzie converted on Portland's first shootout attempt and rookie Orrin Centazzo deked through Michael Bullion to keep the game alive in the third round. Devon Skoleski put the Silvertips ahead in the sixth round, and Petit closed up the game with a stop on Sharp.

Bullion registered 26 saves in the shootout loss.
