Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades beat the Elmira Jackals 4-3 in game one of their best-of-five conference quarterfinals series last night in Germain Arena. Florida scored less than a minute into the game and held off a late surge by Elmira to take a one game to none lead in the series. Elgin Reid secured the win with an empty-net, game-winning goal and goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped 24 shots to pick up his first post-season win in 2010. The playoff contest marked the first game ever between the two clubs in Germain Arena.

Just 39-seconds into the contest, Ryan Lang (1) banged home a puck that lay on the goal line off a shot from the right point from defenseman Brad Zanon. Florida would make it a two-goal advantage at the 16:04 mark of the first period on an Eric Lampe (1) tally. Lampe banked the puck off the right pad of Elmira goaltender Chris Holt on the short side to give Florida a 2-0 edge after 20 minutes of play. Linemates Ross Carlson and rookie Shea Guthrie recorded assists on the tally.

The second period featured several momentum swings at the midway portion of the game. Elgin Reid scored on a breakaway opportunity midway through the frame but the play was ruled offsides. On the ensuing rush, Elmira cut the deficit to 2-1 on Brendan Connolly's (1) first post-season point. Connolly's hustle led to the tally getting Elmira back into the contest. The Everblades grabbed the momentum back with just a second left in the period. Scott Hotham (1) took a pass in the low slot and fired the puck past Holt to give Florida a 3-1 lead. Ross Carlson and Milan Gajic recorded the assists on the goal that came just seconds after Florida's power play expired. The Everblades held Elmira to just four shots in the period while registering nine on Elmira's cage.

The Everblades protected their two-goal advantage through most of the third period. With just over two minutes left in the game, the two teams combined for three goals in a 1:43 stretch. Elmira cut the deficit to one goal at 17:51 with goaltender Holt pulled and the extra attacker. Maxime Gratchev (1) scored the marker with help from Yannick Tifu and Brendan Connolly. Florida responded to take a 4-2 lead on an Elgin Reid empty net goal with 1:03 left in the contest. Yannick Tifu scored with Elmira on the power play and the goaltender on a six-on-four situation to cut the 'Blades to 4-3. The Everblades held off the Jackals for the final 33-seconds to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Game two is set for Wednesday night in Germain Arena at 7:30 p.m. Taco Bell is the presenting sponsor of the Everblades and Jackals game. The first 3,500 fans receive a free crunchy soft taco coupon at the game and one fan will have the chance to win a Taco Bell value meal for a year.
