Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Greg Poss announced today the team has agreed to terms with centerman David Rutherford.

The 24-year-old is coming off his most productive season as a pro. His 35 goals and 67 points led the Mudbugs during the 2009-2010 regular season. Rutherford also averaged over a point a game in the Central Hockey League playoffs scoring 22 points in 20 games helping Shreveport claim their fourth President's Cup Championship. The Ladner, British Columbia native's 12 goals in the post-season, along with teammate Jeff Kyrzakos, led all Central Hockey League playoff performers.

Everblades head coach Greg Poss describes Rutherford as follows, "David is a feisty, two-way centermen that can play in all situations. He not only can produce offensively, but does a lot of the small things that make a team successful!"

After spending the past two seasons in Bossier-Shreveport (99GP 53-52105, 132PIMs, +40), Rutherford started his rookie professional season with the Charlotte Checkers and Phoenix Roadrunners. In 64 games combined, he scored 19 goals and 36 points with the Checkers and Roadrunners. Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-8, 180-pound Rutherford spent three seasons in the Western Hockey League with Spokane and Vancouver. Rutherford's first championship took place in 2008 with Spokane as the Chiefs claimed the Memorial Cup after posting a 50-15-7 regular season record. He scored 113 points in 163 career WHL games with 244 penalty minutes. Rutherford also spent part of two seasons (2003-2005) in the BCHL with Penticton, Chilliwack and Surrey.
