Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - The Evansville Otters are excited to announce that first baseman Nick Schwaner signed a contract extension with the team on Thursday.

Schwaner led the Otters offensively with 12 home runs and 52 runs batted in last year, but it was his overall contributions that impressed Otters manager Andy McCauley.

"Nick was one of our top players and he played in every game," said McCauley. "We are happy to welcome Nick back and see him hitting in the middle of the lineup."

Schwaner is also a great defensive presence for the Otters.

"He plays a good defensive first base and is versatile enough to play many other positions too," added McCauley. "Nick had interest from organizational teams as well as other Independent teams. We are glad to have him returning to Evansville and hopefully we can move Nick on to an affiliated team this year."

Schwaner was a 30th round selection of Tampa Bay in 2010, playing two seasons in the Rays organization. He also played four years at the University of New Orleans, where he hit 45 home runs for the Privateers.

The Evansville Otters season starts on Friday, May 17 against the Normal CornBelters. The year will feature 51 home games including seven scheduled doubleheaders at Historic Bosse Field. Season tickets are already on sale and can be ordered by calling the Evansville Otters front office at (812) 435-8686. Businesses interested in participating with the Otters through advertising or group outings, should email ottersbb@evansville.net. You can also communicate with the Evansville Otters through Facebook and Twitter .
