Evans' Four Hits Highlight B-Mets 3-2 Win

MANCHESTER, NH- Phillip Evans went 4-for-5 and the Binghamton Mets offense pounded out 13 hits in a 3-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Thursday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The B-Mets finished the eight-game road trip, 4-4.

Binghamton started fast with a run in the top of the first. Evans blasted a one-out double off of the manual scoreboard in the left field corner, his sixth extra-base hit in his last six games. Matt Oberste later singled him in, giving the B-Mets a 1-0 lead.

Evans again came through in the second. Jayce Boyd led off with a double and Colton Plaia singled him to third. With two outs, Evans poked a single to left, scoring Boyd and the lead swelled to 2-0.

In the fourth, Derrik Gibson smacked a one-out single and Evans followed by singling him to second. Amed Rosario then belted a single to left, scoring Gibson to push the advantage to 3-0.

New Hampshire got on the board in the fifth as Jorge Saez singled with one out and later scored on a Richard Urena single. Rainy Lara would strike out Jon Berti in the ensuing at bat, stranding a pair to keep the score at 3-1.

The Fisher Cats threatened again in the sixth with a two-out rally. Jason Leblebijian worked a two-out walk and took second on a wild pitch. Derrick Loveless then stroked a single to center, scoring Leblebijian to bring New Hampshire within one. The Fisher Cats would load the bases and chase Lara but Luis Mateo got Christian Lopes to ground out and end the inning with the B-Mets on top, 3-2.

Lara (7-10) picked up the win with two runs allowed on nine hits and four strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. Jeremy Gabryszwski (7-10) was tagged with the loss by allowing three runs on 11 hits over five innings.

Evans went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI to lead the Binghamton offense. Rosario was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI and Oberste finished 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI.

David Roseboom worked a clean ninth for his 11th save of the season.

The B-Mets will now head home and begin a three-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs. It begins at 7:05 PM on Friday with RHP Josh Zeid opposing Portland RHP Mitch Atkins. *POSTGAME NOTES:* Phillip Evans went 4-for-5 with a double, his second four-hit game of the season and the 11th by a B-Met this season...Evans finished the road trip batting .615 (17-for-26) with six extra base hits over six games...The B-Mets split the season series against the Fisher Cats with an 8-8 split, the second consecutive season they have split the season series with New Hampshire.
