Monarchs Freeze Icemen, 2-1
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs scored twice in the second period and came out with a 2-1 win over the Jacksonville Icemen on Friday night at the SNHU Arena.
The Monarchs (6-3-0-1) took their first-ever meeting against the Icemen (1-5-1-0), and outshot their counterparts from Jacksonville, 40-34.
After a scoreless first period, Manchester got on the board when Jonathan Racine netted his 1st goal of the season at 7:17 of the middle frame. Along the boards, Joel Lowry found David Kolomatis at the point, where he slid the puck along the blue line to Racine. Racine then sent a wrist shot past the left shoulder of Icemen goaltender, Jamie Phillips, to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.
The Icemen tied the game when Alexandre Goulet scored at 14:25 of the second period. Dylan Blujus sent a shot on goal from the right point, but the puck made its way to the left dot. Emerson Clark grabbed the puck and fed Goulet in the slot, where he stuffed the puck past Monarchs goaltender, Evan Cowley, for his 6th goal of the season.
The Monarchs took the lead for good when Rob Hamilton scored a power-play goal at 17:29 of the second period, making the game, 2-1. Matt Leitner found Hamilton at the right point where he fired a shot that beat Phillips through the five-hole for his 2nd goal of the season.
The Monarchs travel to Worcester for the first of a home-and-home series with the Railers on Saturday, Nov. 11 (7 p.m.) at the DCU Center.
Sunday, Nov. 12 (3 p.m.), the Monarchs will welcome Boston Bruins legendary anthem singer, Rene Rancourt, to SNHU Arena to perform the Canadian and American national anthems prior to puck drop.
