November 2, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK - Emerson Etem scored his first two goals of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Norfolk Admirals (5-2-0-0) fell to the Binghamton Senators (4-3-1-0), 4-3, on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The same two teams meet tomorrow night at Scope.
Peter Holland also scored for Norfolk, while Sami Vatanen and Luca Caputi each registered two assists. Goaltender Igor Bobkov (3-1-0) stopped 33 of 37 shots in defeat. The Admirals lost for the first time since January 28, 2012, snapping a stretch that encompassed a 15-game regular season home winning streak in 2011-12 and a four-game home winning streak this season.
After a scoreless second period, the teams combined for five tallies in the second stanza. Etem opened scoring at 2:45 before Andre Petersson tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal for Binghamton at 10:33. While on the power play, Holland put the Admirals ahead, 2-1, with his third goal of the season at 14:24. However, the Senators responded with the final two tallies of the period, as Hugh Jessiman scored at 15:57 to tie the game at 2-2 and Mike Hoffman put Binghamton ahead, 3-2, at 19:02.
Etem began the third period with his second goal of the game at 1:14, tying the contest at 3-3. However, Patrick Wiercioch scored the game-winner at 7:54 of the final frame. Binghamton limited Norfolk to just six shots in the final frame and out-shot the Admirals in the contest, 37-31.
Robin Lehner (28 saves, 31 shots) earned the win for the Senators.
Norfolk was 1-for-5 on the power play. Binghamton was 1-for-3.
The same two teams meet tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m. before the Admirals embark on a four-game road trip.
