ESPN Sportscaster and Author Linda Cohn to Attend Syracuse Crunch

August 23, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release

The Syracuse Crunch have announced that ESPN sportscaster and author Linda Cohn will participate in the team's 2016-17 Home Opener presented by Upstate University Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Cohn has long been considered a pioneer for women sportscasters. She has graced our television sets for over 24 years as one of the first full-time female sports anchors. In the illustrious history of ESPN, nobody has hosted more SportsCenters than Cohn.

A fixture on SportsCenter for nearly a quarter of a century, Cohn reached a milestone with ESPN's signature news and information program on her 5,000th show on Feb. 21, 2016. Cohn, who has hosted more editions of SportsCenter than anyone in the 36-year history of the program, is very humbled for being recognized.

Cohn is a master at her craft. She can relate to the true sports fan because she is a true sports fan. She is a brilliant storyteller who uses her wit, imagination and passion for sports to make the stories she delivers come alive. She connects with her viewers, because she is the real deal.

In 2008, Cohn authored a memoir entitled "Cohn-Head, a No-Holds-Barred Account of Breaking into the Boy's Club." Her story allows us to see her both personally and professionally; her dreams, victories, disappointments, obstacles and her gut determination to win.

One of the highlights of her many groundbreaking achievements came early as a senior in high school when she made the boy's high school ice hockey team as the backup goalie. "It sure beat the senior prom," said Cohn.

Cohn will participate in the Crunch's opening ceremony and drop the ceremonial first puck on Oct. 15 when the team hosts the Rochester Americans. She will also be available for autographs in Memorial Hall during the first intermission. In addition, the Crunch will offer VIP experiences with Cohn prior to the game. More details will be released at a later date.

The region's largest employer with nearly 9,000 employees, Upstate Medical University is the only academic medical center in Central New York, serving the New Yorkers from Canada to Pennsylvania with its educational, clinical and research missions. Upstate University Hospital, with two campuses Downtown and Community, employ nearly 2,000 nurses. A highlight of Upstate's leading role in the region is its ability to ensure access to vital one-of-a-kind services, such as burn and trauma care, an array of highly specialized pediatric services and the area's only comprehensive stroke center.

The Syracuse Crunch will hold their 23rd home opener on Oct. 15. Ticket packages for the 2016-17 season are on sale now and can be purchased either in person at the Crunch office located in the War Memorial Arena at 800 S. State St. in Syracuse or by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
