Edmonton Elks News Release

(Edmonton) - The Edmonton Eskimos are proud to announce a record-breaking donation of $840,000 to support the development of amateur football in Northern Alberta.

Last season there were nine lucky winners, with a North American record-setting take-home prize of $435,919.50 - which occurred on July 14, when the previous game's 50/50 jackpot prize of $82,060 went unclaimed and rolled over to the July 14 game.

As a result of the highly-popular 50/50 game-day raffle program, presented by belairdirect, the 2017 amounts distributed today are:

$225,000 to the Edmonton Huskies Junior Football Club

$225,000 to the Edmonton Wildcats Junior Football Club

$145,000 to Football Alberta (Northern Alberta programs)

$110,000 to the University of Alberta Green & Gold Athletic Society

$100,000 to the University of Alberta Golden Bears' Football Endowment Fund

$35,000 to the Edmonton Eskimo Alumni Association's Amateur Football Initiatives

"We have had so much success supporting and developing amateur football throughout Northern Alberta," says Len Rhodes, President & CEO of the Edmonton Eskimos. "Our 50/50 program is doing so much on so many levels for football."

The $100,000 donation to the U of A Golden Bears' Football Endowment Fund is a one-time contribution towards their long-term endowment fund.

The $145,000 donation to Football Alberta includes a $25,000 one-time commitment towards Jasper Place Bowl upgrades that will ensure the new $6.5 Million facility is football user-friendly. Football Alberta's donation also includes a $20,000 one-time commitment to the Capital District Minor Football Association for their creation and implementation of a seven-on-seven non-contact league and coaching development.

Through the Eskimos 50/50 program, presented by belairdirect, fans buy raffle tickets to support amateur football at every Eskimos home game. During the fourth quarter, a winning ticket is randomly drawn, and one lucky fan takes home 50 per cent of proceeds from the game's raffle ticket.
