Errors, Hickory Offense Too Much for Augusta to Overcome

Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (44-40) concluded their series Wednesday night versus the Hickory Crawdads (44-40).

A game delayed by rain from earlier in the afternoon might have contributed to the scoring eruption that began the game. The typically efficient Cory Taylor (7-2, 1.90 ERA), who had not lost a decision since June 14, found himself in an early hole, allowing two first inning runs. Field conditions likely attributed to the sloppiness by the GreenJackets' fielders, and the speed of Hickory, who flew around the base-paths in the top-half of the inning.

Augusta, down 4-0 in the 2nd inning, quickly bounced back, with Dillon Dobson doubling to the right field wall, and Matt Winn homering to deep right.

The Crawdads would continue to push runs across as the game progressed, and that, coupled with spotty defense on Augusta's side, would prove too much to overcome. The GreenJackets drop the series to Hickory, and are tied with the Rome Braves for first place in the Southern Division at 8-5. Cory Taylor drops to 7-3 on the season.

The GreenJackets return back to action Thursday evening for game one of their series with the Columbia Fireflies. It's Thirsty Thursday presented by Country Club Dance Hall & Saloon, Napleton Infiniti of Augusta, and The Hideout. Gates open at 6:00pm and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Domenic Mazza (2-1, 4.43 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Augusta versus Gaby Almonte (1-1, 4.29 ERA).

The 28th consecutive season of professional baseball in Augusta is underway.
